Learning PreCalculus in an interesting way with a mini break after Chapter one, many many subliminal messages, and a ending with a math monster and an aggrivated teacher
Grade Two Math
This was recorded the Spring of 1996 at Prairie Heights High School. While this was an encore performance, I used this as part of a lesson plan a month or two earlier.
Lyrics and drum rhythm are my creation (though the drum rhythm has since been lost). Fellow math teachers: please feel free to use this as part of your own lesson plan. Have your students learn and perform the song!
The lyrics are as follows:
Sine, Cosine, and Tangent are functions which use
special ratios of triangles that one shouldn't lose.
The purpose of this Rap song is to show you the best way
of remembering Sine, Cosine, and Tangent on the test day.
Sine is the first function which we learned to use
and is equal to the opposite over hypotenuse.
The opposite divided by the hypotenuse
is equal to the Sine of the angle we use.
Cosine is the next one which we learned to use
and is the closest side over the hypotenuse.
The closest side divided by the hypotenuse
is equal to the Cosine of the angle we use.
Tangent is the last function which we have tried
and is equal to the opposite over the closest side.
The opposite divided by the closest side
is equal to the Tangent of the angle we've tried.
Learning this Rap song has paved the way
to passing the test that you will take on Friday.
We will sleep easily at night knowing that
our teacher has taught us the Trigometric Rap
